Airlook
Airlook is
Mac OS X widget which displays Airport
Express Base Station information.
The widget makes
use of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) which
Airport Base Stations offer, as a mean to inspect internal information.
What the
widget displays is actually a small subset of what can be retrieved
using the SNMP commands.
Under normal conditions, the following information is displayed:
Name: the device name
Uptime: the time elapsed
since the last reset
TCP reset sent: represents
the number of TCP Reset sent by the Airport station. When using Airport
in combination with a ADSL modem, this represents the number of
incoming TCP connection received from public Internet and being refused
by Airport. Of course, if the ADSL modem already implements
firewalling,
this value may equal 0.
Octets received: this
value is relative to the Ethernet interface of Airport
Octets sent: this value
is relative to the Ethernet interface of Airport
Wifi users: represents
the number of Wifi users being associated to the Airport. This should
at least be equal to 1.
For more information on displayed content, please check the readme file.
From the V2 version of Airlook,
the information is refreshed periodically every 2 seconds. The widget
content is also updated when Dashboard is put to front (e.g. by using
"F12" or by
clicking on the dashboard dock icon).
Some parameters need to be set up for the widget to work properly. The
input screen is the back side of the widget, which is displayed when
clicking on the bottom right "i":
The Airport IP address
The configuration password
(the same the the one used with the Apple Airport Configuration tool)
The parameters need only to be specified once. When being entered, they
are stored as part of the widget preferences.
In case the parameter values are not correct, the widget will obviously
not work as above. For more information on erroneous case and the
possible workaround, please have a look to the readme file.
System
requirements
Mac OSX 10.4.3 and above
An Airport Express (although it may also work with other Wifi
devices implementing SNMP)
Latest available version:Airlook V4 (addition of Wifi users counter)
iPodList is a MAC OS X
command line tool to easily backup and restore iPod music
tracks.
In principle, iTunes is the only way to manage iPod music tracks. In
most of the cases, this works well. However, there are some situations
in which the iTunes operating mode does not help at all and puts some
severe limitations to the end user.
I did this simple program to work this out, and to simply allow the
following operations:
save iPod music content to a computer in one shot
restore the iPod content in one command
extract a subset of the music tracks using a simple pattern
matching scheme
list the iPod music content
For more information, please have a look to the readme file.
Latest available version:ipodlist 4.0
(extension of track number to 20000 plus various performance
improvements)
newslite is a UNIX/LINUX
command line tool to download
from newsgroup and decode multipart and monopart yENC and UU
(Unix-to-Unix) encoded files (see screenshot).
There already exist a lot of programs like that. I built this
new one to fulfill the following objectives:
resource efficiency in terms of CPU usage and memory so
that it could be run on low-end computers
build "title list", in order to ease group content analysis
robustness to news server connection loss
At this point in time, newslite only supports yEnc or UU
encoded
binaries, the most widely used format for binary posting. Any attempt
to download any other kind of encoded files will fail.
newslite main features:
threads XOVER command for faster group message header
retrieval
threads file download for faster download
builds full list of groups hosted by the server
resumes download session in case of connection loss program
interruption
makes use of configuration file to simplify user command
interface
builds "title" and "file" lists from article headers for
quicker group content analysis
decodes yEnc and UU multi and mono-part encoded files
supports news server authentication
supports NZB file processing (check the newzbin site for
further information)
allows connection to news server through any TCP port (i.e.
not only using NNTP 119)
For further information, please have a look to the README file.
System
requirements
Mac OSX 10.2 and above
PC under LINUX.
From version 1.7, newslite
is a universal binary, working on both PPC and Intel MAC platforms.
Latest available version:
newslite 1.10 for Mac
OSX(universal) - for PC/LINUX
(support of -t option and bug fixing)
Older versions:
newslite 1.9 for Mac
OSX(universal) - for PC/LINUX
(support of ISO-8859-1 in subject field)
newslite 1.1b for Mac OSX
- for PC/LINUX (improved
performances in article analysis process)
newslite 1.1a for Mac OSX
(corrects a bug
on "very" long filenames)
newslite 1.1 for Mac OSX
(the first
public version)
